New York snow plow operator killed in railroad crossing accident

An upstate NY 68-year-old man was killed at an unprotected crossing in Northumberland on Wednesday morning.  According to the sheriff's department, the truck was crossing the tracks and got stuck.  An oncoming freight train then hit the truck, killing the operator and injuring the 53-year-old driver.

This dangerous crossing has no protective lights or gates.

Three killed at unprotected railroad crossing in Trenton, MO

Three people were killed in a railroad crossing accident at a dangerous, unprotected crossing with no lights and gates in Trenton, Missouri on Wednesday.

In addition to the inherent dangers of an unprotected railroad crossing, the crossing environment was made more dangerous by the winter storm running through the area.

Mother killed, daughter injured in Missouri railroad crossing accident

A 33-year-old mother in Diggins, Missouri was killed Friday as she attempted to cross a private railroad crossing in the area.  The crossing is dangerous, containing no protective devices such as flashing lights and a protective gate, being outiftted instead with nothing but a stop sign.

The mother's 8-year-old daughter survived the crash, but is currently listed as being in critical condition.
